Claxton Walker & Associates
Serving D.C., Maryland, Virginia and the Entire Chesapeake Bay Area
Claxton comes from a long line of generations of construction, appraisal, sales and general real estate service forebears. Born in 1924 and native to the Washington, DC area, Claxton had early exposure to the construction of homes and the real estate industry. As a child attending grade school at Rosemary Elementary in Chevy Chase, he reminisces about going through neighborhood houses while under construction during his time after school. Retired now to the Eastern shore of Maryland, with six grown children and many grand children, Clack has much time in these later years to reflect on the many accomplishments these past decades have brought.
His formal schooling includes a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Maryland and Graduate studies at Maryland and American University. He has also taken many short courses by either state or trade organizations mainly pertaining to the trade of Construction or Home Inspection. His early professional background includes being an Industrial Arts Teacher for private as well as public Schools, Athletic Director and coach for 10 years, Builder, Remodler / and General contractor of residential, commercial and marina properties and Real Estate Appraiser and Broker. Claxton also held positions with large home construction firms as a superintendent or project manager.
All of this background came to a head when Clack seized the moment realizing that the home buyer was somewhat naive in the home buying process and needed someone on their side to truly state the condition of the house. His action was to form the company we are today – Claxton Walker & Associates.
Claxton Walker & Associates was perhaps the first and is considered now the oldest continually active operating Home Inspection business in the United States. Son, Joseph Claxton Walker now runs the business. During his 24 years of Home inspection, Claxton personally performed over 5,000 inspections and many more where directly under his responsibility. The company to date has performed over 32,000 inspections. Claxton Walker helped form this new industry and was instrumental in organizing, along with other inspectors around the country, the nationally recognized professional society - "The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)".
