Claxton Walker & Associates

Joseph Walker has been the President of  Claxton Walker & Associates since 1991, and an Inspector with the firm since 1985.  Claxton Walker and Associates has been providing Home Inspection Services for more than 31 years and is the oldest company of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic area.  This company has performed more than 32,000 inspections in its 31+ year history.  It was the Practical experience of Claxton Walker and his associates that formed the basis upon which Industry wide standards were eventually developed.

     Joseph Walker has performed over 8,500 inspections personally, including all house ages and styles in all parts of Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia.  He is Certified Member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI Member #1002), and is a Past President of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAC-ASHI).

     Joseph Walker is a past President of Home Inspectors of Maryland Inc. (HIMI) and helped develop and provide the industry support for development and passing of the Home Inspecting licensing law in Maryland.  He has also been involved in the legislative process regarding Home Inspection since the first legislation was proposed and passed in Maryland in the early nineties.

     Past clients include a former U. S. President, some  presidential families, U.S. Representatives and Senators, the  County Executive, Judges, engineers, architects and builders.

Investigator for Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs housing division.  Independent arbiter of construction disputes.
Member of BOCA, Building Officials and Code Administrators, and has been certified as a “One and Two Family Dwelling Combination Inspector”, which is a demonstration of competency for the inspection Of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural systems as related to the model building code.

Certified Building Inspector with the International Code Council.

Qualified Expert Witness in several local court jurisdictions.

Licensed Maryland Home Improvement Contractor #32204 1985 to present.

Instructor at local colleges in residential construction and home inspection subjects.  1988-1990

Construction investigator and expert witness for the Maryland Home Improvement Commission.

Investigation and third party evaluation of construction disputes 1990-1994.

1979-1985           Owned and operated a general contracting firm engaged in the design, cost estimation, and construction of single family homes, light commercial buildings, and the renovation of residence and commercial buildings.

                      Simultaneously operated a property management operation that coordinated the efforts of    several homeowner associations in the execution of capital improvements and the prediction   and planning of capital reserve budgeting and improvements.

1968-1979     Engaged in the construction business at all levels.

Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude graduate from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.

Scott Maury has been with Claxton Walker & Associates since 1997. Claxton Walker & Associates has been providing Home Inspection Service for more than 31 years and is the oldest company of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic area.  This company has performed more than 32,000 inspections in its history.  It was the practical experience of Claxton Walker and his Associates that formed the basis upon which industry wide standards were originally developed.

Scott Maury is the stepson of Claxton Walker and came into the firm in 1997 after many years in the remodeling business.  We believe that remodeling experience is the best preparation for a career in Home Inspection, and we will only hire people with sound remodeling experience.  It provides the practical base of knowledge upon which the specialized training of Home Inspection is built.   Scott Maury also spent some years in the boat building business where he developed a sound understanding of mechanical systems and electrical systems.   

Scott interned for about 9 months under the close scrutiny of the senior members of the company and has successfully completed the exams needed for full member status with ASHI.  His ASHI number is 202642.  He has participated in over 2,400 inspections including houses of all types and ages.  He also belongs to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ASHI.   ASHI, The American Society of Home Inspectors, is the only professional society we recognize at our company because it has the most stringent requirements for membership and the oldest and most recognized ethical standards and standards of practice.  ASHI’s educational programs provide the best continuing educational opportunities that you need to continue developing the knowledge base essential to Home Inspection.  This training touches all trades and professions associated with the construction and maintenance of homes from architecture to pipe fitting, including all the major components of a home listed in the report and beyond.  It is a broad base of knowledge that makes this a unique profession.

Scott grew up in Bethesda and Potomac, Maryland and is the son of Deane Maury of Stuart and Maury Realty in Bethesda.

            William L. Walker has performed over 1400 inspections personally, including a wide variety of house ages and styles.  He is a certified member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI Member #204451), and is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ASHI (MAC-ASHI).  ASHI is the only professional society that demands proof of ability before membership can be attained.  Membership in ASHI is restricted to those who have demonstrated competency and appropriate experience as judged by peer review and the passing of multiple levels of testing in technical and ethical subjects.  ASHI’s continuing education seminars provide specialized training in every conceivable subject related to the home and it’s parts.  This training encompasses all the trades and professions and equips the Home Inspector with the broad knowledge base that is unique to the profession.  There is no other source for this training. 

Your Inspector, William L. Walker, draws from his 24 years of experience in the local building industry, to help.  A native Washingtonian, he is the sixth generation to provide home building and real-estate services in the area.  His areas of expertise include estimating, design, costing, and construction of new homes; as well as retrofit design and problem-solving skills as they relate to the remodeling industry.  He has worked extensively with engineers, architects, contractors, homeowners, designers, home buyers, banks, and real-estate agents in the managing of his custom home business.

1996-1998 Project Manager for the William L. Berry Co. in charge of all aspects of land and site development.  Construction of new homes from on site ground breaking to customer service completion.

1990-1996 President of William L. Walker Co. of Laytonsville, MD.  A custom home and remodeling company.

1988-1990 President of John C Walker Development Co., A land development and custom home builder in Chevy Chase, MD.

1976-1987 Held various positions with John C. Walker Development Co. ranging from labor management to on site supervision.

       Alan S. Miller joined Claxton Walker & Associates in the Spring of 2007.  Claxton Walker & Associates has been providing Home Inspection Service for more than 33 years and is the oldest company of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic area.  The company has performed more than 32,000 home inspections in its 33 year history.   It was the practical experience of Claxton Walker and his associates that formed the bases upon which industry wide standards were originally developed.

        Alan S. Miller comes to Claxton Walker & Associates as a Building and Construction professional with over 35 years experience in residential and commercial building.  Alan is a results-driven, creative leader with a solid record of accomplishments in the building line in the Washington Metropolitan area.   For the last 24 years, as the president/owner of ASM Builders & Developers, Inc.,  Alan has built single family homes in both Montgomery and Frederick counties.  His areas of expertise included not only the construction of new homes, but research and land development as well. Alan has been involved in all aspects of the construction business.  Alan’s vast commercial construction experience spans more than 3 decades with some of the larger construction companies in both the local markets and well as his native New York .  He has worked with the United States Corps of Engineers at Fort Meade and Ft. Belvoir .  He worked with Blake Construction on Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital .  He worked with Warner and Associates as a Director of scheduling and consulting to keep large projects on schedule and on budget; monitoring the building process using the CPM (critical path methodology) where he routinely acted as a mediator in delay of construction cases.

 

       Alan is a Licensed Home Inspector (license # 29985) and is a member of the MAC-ASHI (Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ASHI).
